An Ode to the Cherry Blossom | Toronto Boudoir Photographer

Back in November, Dan and I,  had a wrap up meeting with T&H Events, for our Ceremonials stylized shoot. During that meeting we talked about where we were at with our businesses and what direction we wanted to take them in the New Year. It was during this conversation, I first learned of the Toronto Cherry Blossom Festival in High Park, which got me really excited!

When I interned for Time Out Shanghai, in the spring of 2011, I fell in LOVE with the cherry blossoms!

It is said that for the Chinese, the cherry blossom represents feminine beauty and sexuality. In Chinese herbal medicine the cherry blossom is symbolic of Love.

Now upon a little research into the cherry blossom trees in High Park, I discovered that the trees are Japanese Somei-Yoshino Sakura trees! In 1959, the Japanese ambassador to Canada, Toru-Hagiwara, gifted 2000 trees on behalf of the citizens of Tokyo, to the citizens of Toronto, in appreciation of taking in Japanese-Canadian refugees during the Second World War. How amazing is that?!

This then led me to research the symbolism of the cherry blossom in Japanese culture.

For the Japanese, the cherry blossom represents the very transient nature of Life.  The cherry blossom tree is known for its very short yet beautiful life cycle. The delicate blooming cycle lasts all of about two weeks. The peak of this extraordinary bloom happens within one week of the first bloom, and ends about a week later as the blossoms begin their inevitable but graceful fall back to the earth. This rise and fall is much like traditional Japanese samurai spirit, and the belief that life is brief yet beautiful, just like the cherry blossom.

So taking inspiration from both the Chinese and Japanese beliefs on theses beautiful trees, I give you my ode to the cherry blossom.

2013 About.com Readers’ Choice Awards | Toronto Boudoir Photographer

Back in February I was notified that I had been nominated for About.com’s 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards, in the category of Favorite Intuitive Artist!

Voting took place from February 19 to March 19, and if you follow us on Facebook, you may have seen the calls to go and vote. Over the last seven days judges have been auditing the votes and today the winner was announced! AND it’s OFFICIAL! I WON! I could not be more honoured!

It is all thanks to you guys, my wonderful clients, friends and family! Thank you, to each and every one of you who went and voted! But more importantly, THANK YOU, to each of you who have supported, and believed in me along the way! None of this would have been possible without YOU!

It is because of all of you that I am able to get up every morning and do what I love. I get to meet so many amazing people, that I may have never had the opportunity to get to know, if it wasn’t for this amazing gift I am able to share with all of you.

It has been a tough year, moving back to Ontario and starting a business, for many reasons. Although at times it has been tough, the experience has been invaluable. There were so many lessons learned in 2012, that we have taken from to bring you BIGGER and BETTER in 2013!

So THANK YOU! And Cheers to US!

xoxo

One King West Hotel & Residence Shoot | Toronto Boudoir Photographer

Wow! Saturday was one of those days where I just feel so incredibly lucky to be able to do what I love for a living.

Ms. H contacted me a few weeks back, interested in booking a boudoir shoot to surprise her fiancé with as a wedding gift. We had to be a little sneaky and creative with out pre-meetings so that he didn’t suspect anything, but boy was it worth it! He is going to freak out when he sees this stunning shots of his new wifey!

During our last meeting Ms. H told me how she loves linens, which got me to thinking about this silhouette shot I’ve been dying to try out…and wow did Ms. H own those shots! She was such a natural in front of the camera, and such a joy to work with! She inspired me so much with her series of silhouette shots that I just had to recreate the images so I could share with all of you! (Be sure to keep an eye out on the blog for the recreated images)

Thank you, to the freaking gorgeous Ms. H for allowing me to share in this amazing gift for her hubby-to-be! I can’t wait for both of them to see how HOT this album is!

I also have to thank One King West, for making sure we were well taken care of, I have been wanting to shoot at this hotel for some time now, and it was everything I had hoped it would be!

Although I won’t be sharing any of Ms. H’s photo’s with you all, I do have some behind the scenes shot by my amazing assistant, Brandi. Thanks for being my extra set of hands Brandi, and for keeping everyone laughing! You rock girlfriend!

The gorgeous Ms. H getting primped by the amazing Vasso Thymis, MUA.

A sneak attack shot taken by Brandi of me. She’s very sneaky…

Another sneaky shot by Brandi. I really like this one:)

The view from the suite! Thanks King West!
